Commitments for Students and Parents
At Sugarloaf Performing Arts, we are committed to professionally inspiring young artists through excellence in arts education. We depend on families, students, and SPA staff to help us meet our goals and to develop positive, constructive relationships. To aid in our efforts we have created this school commitment form to outline expectations of students and families. In clearly stating our purpose here at SPA it will enable us to fulfill our mission statement to all of our families here at SPA.
Student’s Commitment
- Being on time for class. Trying your best to arrive 15 minutes prior to class start time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late you will be asked to sit and observe class.
- Being prepared for class. This means dressed properly according to dress code: no jewelry other than small earrings; ballet strings either tucked in or tied in a knot and cut off; and having your hair up off the neck and out of your face- it must be in a bun for ballet. Coverups should be worn over leotards and tights when entering/exiting the building for all students Pre-Ballet 3 and above. No dance shoes should be worn outside.
- Understanding that attendance is important to properly develop skills and improve technique. Students with excessive absences may be excluded from recital.
- Never chewing gum inside the building.
- Being focused throughout the class. Maintaining a respectful attitude to your class, peers, your instructors, administration, and the facility.
- Making sure all trash is picked up and thrown away. Return books and magazines to their appropriate place.
- Always asking before leaving the room for any reason.
- Never running or doing gymnastics in the hallways or lobby of the studio.
Parent’s Commitment
- Notifying the SPA office if your student is going to miss class either by e-mail ([email protected]), phone call (770-682-5333), or written note. Please note that once recital dances have been started, pre-ballet and lower-level graded students will not be able to make up classes, unless otherwise instructed by their teachers.
- Please do not drop your children off at the curb. We ask that you pull into a parking space to drop off your children for safety reasons and to reduce traffic.
- If you need to get your student early from class, always ask the office associate to get your child.
- If you have a student enrolled in a dance class, recital is required. Please mark the dates on your calendar.
- Having your student ready for class on time and picking them up promptly after class.
- Paying your tuition on time. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the office.
- Asking the office associate to schedule conferences with the school director if you have questions or concerns regarding your student’s classes. Please do not address concerns with teachers in the hallway/lobby between classes.
- Supporting SPA and our mission statement.
Letter from the Director
Welcome to Sugarloaf Performing Arts:
I Welcome to Sugarloaf Performing Arts:
I am excited that you have chosen us to fulfill your performing arts instructional needs for the 2023-2024 season! It is my goal to provide quality training in a nurturing, family-oriented environment. With that in mind, I want you to get connected and become familiar with all of the great opportunities available at SPA. In addition to our weekly classes with experienced, loving, professional teachers and annual recitals we offer several fun-filled activities throughout the season. During the first week of every month, pre-ballet parents will be able to observe via zoom. Graded level classes can be observed bi-annually in the fall and spring. I invite you stop in and witness your student’s growth throughout the year. This is also a great time to engage in conversation with other parents. Who knows— you might even find a new carpool partner or weekend play-date!
SPA serves as home to Sugarloaf Youth Ballet, a nonprofit performing company. Our performing companies present 4-full length productions each year: Family Classic (October), A Sugarloaf Ballet Christmas (December), The Nutcracker (December), and Inspire (February). These presentations are family friendly, high quality productions that will make you proud to call SPA your performing arts training facility. It is my hope to see each of you at all of the Sugarloaf Youth Ballet performances.
Information on our events and activities are provided via regular email updates, as well as posted throughout the studio. We also offer regularly updated news and announcements on our website (www.sugarloafperformingarts.com), Facebook page (Sugarloaf Performing Arts Studio), and Instagram (@SugarloafPA). Please read all communications to stay up to date!
Thank you for choosing Sugarloaf Performing Arts! We look forward to dancing, tumbling and acting with you!
Sincerely,
Lori Zamzow-Wire, Artistic Director
